Japanese Olympiad of Indiana

JASI is a proud Sponsor and Supporter of the 2026 Japanese Olympiad of Indiana (JOI), a statewide academic competition designed for high school students studying Japanese language and culture.  It aims to promote Japanese language education and cultural understanding across the state of Indiana.  Organized by the Association of Indiana Teachers of Japanese (AITJ), this year’s Olympiad will be held at Earlham College in Richmond on February 21.  JASI’s Yosakoi Dance Team will be the featured performers at this year’s JOI.

The Japanese Olympiad of Indiana is a team-based academic competition in which high school students demonstrate their knowledge of Japanese language, culture, society, and history. Typically, around ten high schools participate, and total attendance is approximately 150--200.

JOI fosters strong teamwork and enthusiasm among participants each year and enhances the quality of Japanese language instruction by providing students with clear goals, deeper contextual understanding, and increased motivation to continue their studies. The event supports and elevates Japanese programs at the high school level, while also building bridges between high schools and higher education institutions across Indiana.
